The Gallery celebrates its sixth month of existence and consolidates itself as a cultural and tourist benchmark

The Royal Collections Gallery has completed six months since its opening. Within this time, the new museum of Patrimonio Nacional has consolidated its place as a cultural and tourist benchmark among national museums. Since its opening on 28th June, nearly 350,000 persons have visited the Gallery.

“The visitor data are good, but beyond that, I’d like to highlight that their comments are very positive. And this makes us proud as a public institution that cares for and displays our National Heritage," states Leticia Ruiz, the Director of the Gallery. "In six months we have managed to consolidate ourselves as an important benchmark among national museums: we are already an essential stop", she adds.

Patrimonio Nacional launches a new cultural dissemination programme in 2024 within the Gallery. Among other activities, the 'Tuesdays in the Gallery' lecture series is once again being held in the auditorium, with admission free of cost until full capacity is reached. Additionally, educational activities such as children's workshops, or 'In Context’ where visitors are given a detailed explanation of a specific work, and tours with commentary, have also been renewed.

Located next to the Royal Palace in Madrid, the Gallery houses an exhibition of around 700 items, representing five centuries of royal collections. The works bear the hallmarks of artists such as Velázquez, Goya and Caravaggio, and provide a chronological account of changes in tastes and the collections and patronage of the monarchs, as well as the role played by Patrimonio Nacional in the conservation of this legacy. In addition to tapestries, textiles, paintings, sculptures, furniture, carriages and decorative arts, the assets of the Royal Armoury, the General Archive of the Palace, and the Royal Libraries of El Escorial and Madrid are also on display.
