Patrimonio Nacional celebrates its female legacy at the Royal Collections Gallery

On 8th March, Patrimonio Nacional is celebrating International Women’s Day with a programme that underscores the contribution of women to the Royal Collections. The Gallery, the new museum space of Patrimonio Nacional, will be the cornerstone of the 8M programme, which includes informational and educational activities.
A special tour titled ”"In Femininewill be held on 7th and 8th March exploring certain items linked to women such as the Portrait of Isabella the Catholic by Juan de Flandes, Archangel Michael Vanquishing the Devil by Luisa Roldán, the Chirogymnast of Isabella II, and the sedan chair of Barbara of Braganza. This tour will be conducted by the Curatorial team and can be followed live at the museum itself and on Patrimonio Nacional's social media channels.
During the month of March, the guided tour " Women: collectors and promoters of art" will focus on the art patronage promoted by women linked to the court (Wednesdays from 5pm to 6:30pm and Sundays from 11:30am to 1pm) Additionally, the activity "In Context"(Wednesdays from 7pm to 7:30pm and Saturdays from 11am to 11:30am) will introduce the public to Lavinia Fontana's work The Holy Family with the Infant Saint John the Baptist and explain the significant role played by women in the European War Office, whose documentation is kept in the Royal Archive of the Palace and is exhibited in the Gallery itself.
Women will also be the protagonists of the new series of Tuesdays at the Gallery, dedicated to Women in the Spanish Monarchy. On 5th March, María Ángeles Pérez Semper will talk about Elisabeth Farnese as a collector and patron; on 12th March, María José Rubio will examine the figure of the only female writer of the Hispanic monarchy, María Josepha María of Saxony, and on 19th March, Gloria Franco Rubio will discuss Bárbara of Braganza's legacy in the field of female education.
