The Royal Collections Gallery, nominated for "Opening of the Year" at the Apollo Magazine Awards
06/11/2023
On Monday, the Royal Collections Gallery was nominated by the prestigious English publication Apollo Magazine in the category of "Museum Opening of the Year", as one of the most significant openings of 2023. Award winners will be announced on Wednesday 22nd November at a ceremony held in the Institute of Contemporary Art in London.
The art magazine, one of the oldest in the world, has held this award ceremony every year since 1992, recognising major milestones in the world of art and museums. This nomination is an acknowledgement of the Gallery’s international impact as the most important European museum project in decades.
Since its opening last summer, the Gallery has already received nearly 250,000 visitors and has been very well received both inside and outside Spain. It has also hosted events such as the first meeting of the College of Commissioners within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2023. This meeting, which took place in July, was a unique opportunity for Europe to learn about the new museum of Patrimonio Nacional.
Located next to the Royal Palace in Madrid, the Gallery exhibits a selection of more than 650 objects from the Royal Collections held by Patrimonio Nacional, spanning a period of over five centuries of history. This nomination is in addition to various other recognitions received by the new museum, such as Opening of the Year at the Time Out Cultura de Madrid Awards and the CERMI Universal Accessibility Award.
