The vehicles and carriages of Patrimonio Nacional are the stars of the new “Tuesdays at the Gallery” lecture series

The secrets of Patrimonio Nacional's iconic collection of carriages will be revealed in the new “Tuesdays at the Gallery” lecture series. The series is entitled “In Motion. Vehicles and Carriages of Patrimonio Nacional”, in reference to the temporary exhibition of the same name hosted by the Gallery displaying one of the best collections of carriages in the world. The lectures will be held on 7th, 14th and 21st November at 7pm in the auditorium of the Royal Collections Gallery and the admission is free of charge until full capacity is reached. The lectures will also be streamed on the YouTube channel of Patrimonio Nacional.

The first lecture, on 7th November, will be delivered by Isabel Rodríguez Marco, curator of Carriages at Patrimonio Nacional. She will introduce participants to the fifty or so items - carriages, vehicles, sledges and even a sedan chair - currently exhibited on Floor -3 of the Gallery and, through them, discuss the history of the carriage in Spain and its role as a representation of power from the 16th until the 20th century.

Lucio Maire Dorado, head of the Gilding and Stucco Workshop at Patrimonio Nacional, will deliver a lecture on carriage restoration and conservation techniques on Tuesday the 14th. The series will end on Tuesday the 21st with a lecture entitled "The equestrian world and the Royal Stables at the Spanish Court", where the curator Leticia García de Ceca will address, among other topics, the importance of historical ceremonies such as the presentation of the credentials of new ambassadors to His Majesty the King.

”Tuesdays at the Gallery” is a lecture series designed by Patrimonio Nacional to disseminate the conservation and research projects carried out by its departments, and to raise awareness of its collections, buildings, and green spaces. This season's lectures have focused on the Royal Collections Gallery and will close in December with the screening of a documentary describing the process of creating this new museum of Patrimonio Nacional, from the very start.
