Gasol, Jerónimo
(1547 - 1605)
Gasol, Jerónimo. Tremp (Lérida)?, 1st half of 16th century - mid-16th century – Valladolid?, 05.1605. Secretary to Philip II and prothonotary of the Council of Aragon.
Jerónimo Gasol is the most prominent member of a Catalan clan of royal officials - they hailed from the town of Tremp - who made his career in the Council of Aragon. He was joined by his son, Francisco Ventura Gasol (Madrid?, 1582-Madrid, 3 June 1619), also prothonotary of Aragon, and the son of his brother Galcerán, his nephew Juan Gasol (†1615), who was the King’s liege subject in the secretariat of Catalonia, scribe of the Estudi General of Lérida, and procurator of the castellany of Amposta. They represent an intermediate stage in the succession of Aragonese lineages (the Clemente and the Villanueva families) at the head of the Chancellery of the Council of Aragón.
