In the 2024 edition, Patrimonio Nacional and PHotoESPAÑA present a three-year programme entitled “Cuadernos de campo” (Field Notebooks), which focuses on the natural landscapes of the Royal Sites. This initiative has been made possible thanks to the sponsorship of ACCIONA and is proof of the commitment of the three institutions to the environment and its protection. 

The first edition is dedicated to the Royal Site of La Granja de San Ildefonso, which this year commemorates the three hundredth anniversary of its creation by Philip V of Spain. Javier Vallhonrat, winner of the 1995 National Photography Prize, has collaborated in this project, whose lucid gaze reveals the privileged ecosystem of this Royal Site.

This exhibition is completed with an original audiovisual creation by Javier Vallhonrat, whose editing and sound was done by Pablo Vallhonrat. This audiovisual is specifically conceived and produced for The Cube in the Royal Collections Gallery and it can be accessed through the Campo del Moro Gardens.

The audiovisual piece De arroyos, bosques y torrentes shows us, through delicate metaphors, the richness and uniqueness of the relationship between water and the natural environment in which it is integrated, as well as with the human elements that intervene in its use.

The second son of Louis of Bourbon (1661-1711), commonly known as the Grand Dauphin, heir to the French Crown, and Maria Anna Christine Victoria of Bavaria (1660-1690), the future Philip V grew up at the court of Versailles during the reign of his grandfather, Louis XIV of France. He was educated by François Fénelon, later Archbishop of Cambrai.
